Local Filmmakers Night Features “Trains & Transvestites” – The world premiere of a film by Dave Silverbrand.

On Wednesday, April 26th, at the Eureka High School Lecture Hall, Local Filmmakers Night screening series will be presenting the world-premiere of a documentary film by Dave Silverbrand.

A career journalist, Dave Silverbrand has taught media at College of the Redwoods and currently writes a regular column for the Times-Standard. He also produces features for Newschannel 3 focusing on seniors, pets and the environment. He is a frequent traveler to Latin America, having visited Cuba six times. He regularly shares his documentaries with Access Humboldt.

His latest documentary is called "Trains and Transvestites." It explores Cuban life in the City of Santa Clara. He describes his encounters with musicians, transvestites and his time in the custody of Cuban police. Silverbrand will also offer his tips for creative documentary making and turning your next journey into a creative adventure. He promises an entertaining night of adventure and story-telling tips.

Local Filmmakers Night, a collaboration between Access Humboldt, Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission and Eureka High School Media Club, is a screening series that supports and promotes the local film community. These events offers an inside look at the filmmaking process by encouraging the filmmakers to share their challenges and learning. Following the screening, attendees can enjoy Q & A session, movie trivia, prizes, and a reception at the adjacent Access Humboldt's Community Media Center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Screening starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and all are welcome to attend.
